trndmsk Podcast #58 – Jacob Groening

Jacob Groening somehow manages to infuse organic, gypsy, blues and soul with electronic elements or is it the other way around? Make up your own mind. The musician, sound engineer and Dj’s songs never sound the same. Things keep shifting and fusing but still there is this gentle touch to bring some variation to the composition, and let it be sweet and subtle, and let there be house or tech house, or slow house, whatever you want to call it. Take your time, close your eyes, relax and find solace in these psychedelic and hypnotic sounds. trndmsk Podcast #58!

Jacob, what can we look forward to in the next few minutes?

Jacob Groening: I combined some of my latest productions with tracks i found that are inspiring to me. It gives a good example of how my performances are these days. More energetic than my latest releases. You will find a track in the beginning where i worked with an amazing korean singer where i am curious how this will be perceived!

When did you record the set? What surrounded you at the time?

The last past months i had big changes in my life that had a big impact on me and my creativity as well. I recently just moved into a creative co living space with my label partner and good friend Zigan Aldi in Kreuzberg/Berlin. Friends and musicians with different cultural backgrounds are visiting and we make jam sessions and record a lot of ideas and that is how i create ideas and contain my inspirational flow.

How did you choose the tracks for the mix?

This happens organically, when i like tracks i listen to them more often and the journey can begin. Like a picture that you paint, you start with a little drawing, then you see something inside of it. You keep following that idea and then you choose the right colours/ tracks.

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix?

I don’t have a specific track that is my favourite, i see it as a big family that belongs together.

Summer is just around the corner. Which open airs are you most looking forward to?

As part of our label we created a booking agency to organise our shows and to have everything in one place. My journey in the Summer will take me to Istanbul, Porto, Lissabon, Suisse, Cezme and Mexico City besides shows in Germany. More journeys are in to be announced soon. We have showcases planned in Berlin at Kater Blau and Istanbul at Klein Garten. Things are doing well and i am super grateful for the universe to make this happen.

What are your near future projects? Are you working on any other projects?

We started our label Kamai Music one year ago and it is so much fun working with artist from all around the world and to have this platform to connect people and enjoy and share their creativity. We organise events each first thursday a month in Berlin on a beautiful roof on a Parking lot called Klunkerkranich. Its a place where we can invite our friends and of course perform as well. I am very happy to announce that my next release “Sulg EP” is coming in the beginning of August on Vinyl and Digital on our own imprint. That is very exciting and i am courious where this journey will take me. As well i am super happy to share another track that is part of another EP i am releasing on the new imprint from the Zero Community in New York. The Ep is called Nican and will be released at the end of the year.
